Mary Kay was a student at Napa Valley College in the 1980's. She went on to the Kansas City Art Institute for her BFA, and then to graduate school at Southern Illinois University for her MFA. For some years she worked at Highwater Clay in Ashville, North Carolina. She now lives and works in her own studio near Chicago. For me, the annual NCECA* would not be the same without a visit with Mary Kay.

In March, 2001, Mary Kay promised to send a number of images, many of which are of her handbuilt functional work. There are illustrations of several of her pieces in the book Handbuilt Tableware. *National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts |
