This is our salt kiln when it is about two-thirds stacked, before firing. The right side is being tumble stacked, to get salt flashing and fire marks on the pots, and the left side is on shelves, for a somewhat even salting on the outside surface. Often many of the pots fall or roll down in the firing, but we rarely lose any when that happens. That's always a surprise the first time students experience it.
