Until 1999, we had a wood fired "Train Kiln" (designed by John Neely and built by John and NVC students in 1996) on campus. When students obtained enough wood, and made enough good pots for a full load, they could then stack and fire it, which usually took anything from 30 to 36 hours. In this photo, they are stoking it at night, which is certainly the best time to get a good picture. (The kiln was dismantled in 1999.)
